Responding to a comment that hiplife music has been overshadowed by other music genres, originator of hiplife and member of VVIP, Reggie Rockstone has stated that it would be wrong to make such an assertion as the roots of these music genres can be traced to hiplife.
He also noted that traces of hiplife music can be felt in most of our Reggae Dancehall songs as most of our artistes beautifully infuse hiplife music in their productions citing artistes such as Shatta Wale and Samini as examples.
Reggie Rockstone also disclosed to showbizpunch.com i that he does not in any way compare the Ghana music industry with that of our neighbors in Nigeria any longer as that only highlights the faults and shortfalls adding that rather, steps that can be taken to uplift the Ghana music industry as a whole is his foremost priority.
In as much as he draws some inspiration from our Nigerian counterparts, Reggie Rockstone noted that patriotism and being self-sufficient is the way to go and that has always served as the blueprint of hiplife.
He stated that the origination of hiplife was to give Ghanaian musicians an identity and to do things for themselves.
According to him, in order to move the Ghana music industry forward, Ghanaians would have to stop the hate mentality and support each other.
